The 2000 Section Conclave will be held in Cody, WY April 28, 29 and 30, 2000. Details for the conclave are still being finalized and should be available in the next mailing. Don't know what a conclave is...Well, basically, it's where members of the four lodges (Apoxy-Aio, Tatokainyanka, Kola, and ours) in the W5C Section (that's our section) get together for a weekend of fellowship and training. Last year training was conducted on such things as Camp Promotions, OA History, Service, Publications, Unit Elections, Lodge Forum, Elangomat, Leadership, and Ceremonies. In addition to the excellent training opportunity there were times for a tour of Devil's Tower, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, table tennis, climbing competition, a triathlon, and racquetball. This years conclave promises to be more of the same...fun and fellowship. Stay tuned because as more details become available we will keep you posted. Unlike the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) there is no limit to the number of people we can take. |
Every two years, Arrowmen from across the country gather on the campus of a major university for the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC). These gatherings draw nearly 7000 Arrowmen, traveling from as far away as Europe and Asia, for five days of training, fun, and fellowship. With each conference, NOAC becomes more diversified, more fun, and more exciting. NOAC has many different aspects and it is impossible to participate in every event in one year. Each year events are added and changed so you could go to NOAC every time and do new things each time. The main activities at NOAC include training, ceremonies evaluation, American Indian events, shows, competitions, and Founder's Day. NOAC has something for everyone of all backgrounds and all ages. It is definitely one of Scouting's most unique and entertaining training events. NOAC 2000 is scheduled to take place from Saturday, July 29 through Thursday breakfast, August 3 on the beautiful campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. We are planning on departing Rapid City Airport mid afternoon on July 28 and returning in the evening on August 3. We are currently taking applications to fill the projected vacancies allotted for Crazy Horse Lodge. We believe we will be able to take 8 youth and 4 adults. The ratio of youth to adults must be maintained at 2:1. The estimated total cost for travel to and from NOAC, including meals, is $750.00 per participant. This includes the $500.00 round-trip airfare and the $250.00 registration fee. Note: This is an estimated cost as airfare prices are currently not available through all the airlines departing Rapid City. Additionally, the Lodge is selling limited color versions of the “Ghost” Flap to help offset the cost of transportation. If you are interested in attending NOAC, a $50.00 non-refundable (but transferable) registration fee is due to the Council Office. Registration will be taken on a first come-first serve basis. Once we fill our quota, additional names will be put on a waiting list. |
